Tuna Salad

INGREDIENTS
  • 5 cans of tuna (in water)
  • 1 glass of pickled cucumbers
  • 1 medium-sized red onion
  • 1 glass of capers (optional)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise 
  • salt and pepper 

PREPARATION

This recipe is a simple one but the taste is great especially for anyone that grew up in Eastern Europe. Few things brighten up the day like a teaspoon of mayonnaise. Anyway...

To start open the cans of tuna and take the tuna chunks out. Normally, we just get rid of all the excess water and give the tuna chunk a firm squeeze to get some of the water out. The last thing you want is a watery tuna salad. Just put all of the tuna in a big bowl.

Next chop up the pickled cucumbers and red onion into small pieces. We, normally, half them and then cut them into small (1 cm) big pieces. Keep the brine of the pickled cucumbers as we will mix it later with the mayonnaise. Add all of it to the tuna as well as the capers if you like them.

In a separate bowl or food processor, add the mayonnaise, the brine of the pickles, and salt and pepper and just mix it all together. If you don't like mayonnaise, sour cream will also get the job done. 

Add it to your big bowl and mix it all up. Voilá!

  1. This is the perfect snack for in between meals to satisfy you for a little while. Keep always some in the fridge.
  2. If you would like to reduce calories, use half the amount of mayonnaise and add plain yoghurt (check the labels of different brands to find the best one for you)
  3. To keep it interesting you could also add some jalapeños, Dijon mustard or other spices.

SERVING SIZE & MACRO NUTRIENTS

With the ingredients above this makes about 1 kg of tuna salad. Depending on your hunger / discipline this can be about 10 smaller snacks.
